What do you call your Chief Executive Officer? (And yes, you have one!)

Governance as Leadership

Issue 129 - September 10, 2024

In This Issue:

You have a Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Yes, you really do.

You may not want to admit it – too corporate!

You may call the position something else – commonly Executive Director, General Manager, Managing Director, Chief Librarian, Superintendent…But the person is still your CEO. Here’s why. Read on here.

Getting Your Fundraising Back on Track

Amy Eisenstein is a specialist in fundraising. Here is a summary of her take on fundraising and the importance of cultivating individual donors.

How can you raise more money? Get off the treadmill of grant writing and event planning and focus on what really matters – individual donors.

Select a Donor Database. You should be able to review a donor’s history and relationship with your organization.

Improve Stewardship Efforts. Do donors know how past gifts were used and do they feel like they’ve made a difference?

Engage Current Donors. Do your donors feel like “insiders” at your organization?

Increase Retention Rates. Tracking donor retention rates is one of the basic metrics you should be monitoring.

Create Authentic Relationships. Donors give to organizations they trust.

Plan for Planned Giving. If you are not actively soliciting bequests, you are missing the best opportunity to provide funding for the future.

Make Giving Simple. Donors tend to give more, and more frequently, when giving is simple.

Evaluate Your Events. Is it worth all the staff time?

Inventory Your Grants. Is the process worth the amount you are receiving in return?
